Sir Ian Botham and Bob Willis are two of the biggest names in the modern era of world cricket. Geoff Merrill’s reputation on the International stage of winemaking is equally impressive. A mutual passion for their respective professions, cricket and wine, drew them together during the English tour of Australia in 1978. Since then a lasting friendship has developed over many bottles opened and balls bowled.
About This Wine:
The colour is a deep dark red, typical of this outstanding vintage. The aroma is a complex blend of savoury meats, spice and herbs perfectly entwined with dark berry fruits, chocolate and black olive. Well integrated oak characters add depth and sophistication to the bouquet.
The palate is like berry fruits dipped in dark chocolate. Rich and full flavoured with wonderful fleshy fruit tannins and well balanced acidity on the finish.
94 points – Sam Kim (Wine Orbit) “A splendid shiraz offering power and grace in one; the wonderfully fragrant bouquet shows blackberry, cherry, game, warm spice, cocoa and cedar characters, followed by a concentrated palate that is mouth filling and opulent. The wine exhibits excellent fruit purity backed by stylish savoury complexity and silky tannins, finishing magnificently long and engaging. 5 stars.”
